About Susan Kusek
Director of Clinical Operations at NPS Pharmaceuticals, Inc., since 2009, Susan Kusek has supervised four different programs for treating hypoparathyroidism (HPTH). The condition, in which the parathyroid glands produce lower-than-normal amounts of parathyroid hormone, can result in low calcium in the blood, cramping muscles, and kidney stones. Susan Kusek coordinates the company’s virtual outsourcing model for managing multiple vendors working on the clinical portfolio for HPTH. On behalf of NPS, she also builds and fosters relationships with doctors identified as Key Opinion Leaders. Her employer chose Ms. Kusek to give presentations at the HPTH International Symposium in 2010 and 2011.
Susan Kusek’s 15 years of experience in clinical research for the pharmaceutical industry have included new drug applications, regulatory submissions, new medical device delivery or technologies, and budget management. The medical specialties in which Ms. Kusek has worked range from organ transplants and cardiovascular conditions to diabetes, oncology, and nephrology. Before coming to NPS, she served two years as Director of Clinical Operations at Orion Clinical Services, Inc., in Princeton, New Jersey. In over five years of employment by Cordis Corporation, a subsidiary of Johnson and Johnson, Ms. Kusek fulfilled the duties of Project Leader in Cardiovascular Clinical Research, then Clinical Manager of the Endovascular Clinical Research program.
Susan Kusek also served as Clinical Scientist and Manager in Cardiovascular Clinical Research at Bristol-Meyers Squibb Company in Princeton for nearly four years. She began her career in the pharmaceutical industry as a Clinical Research Associate focusing on cancer drug trials at Theradex Systems, Inc. After earning her Bachelor of Science in Journalism at Kansas State University, Susan Kusek earned a second Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from Creighton University. Recently, Ms. Kusek has engaged in studies for a Master of Business Administration with emphasis in Pharmaceutical Healthcare through Capella University.
